Permanent Secretariat Progress Report

4th May - 3rd July 2001

• 1. Establishment of the Permanent ccTLD Secretariat

  The permanent secretariat proposal by B.K. Kim under AP Joint Secretariat was endorsed online with the following results: in favor - 36, oppose - 4 and abstain - 1. AdCom has approved the results and permanent secretariat officially started on 4 May 2001. You can see the minutes at 20010503.ACtelecon-minutes.html. Web site: www.wwtld.org has been transferred from AFNIC and has been updated periodically. Mailing lists have also been set up and managed.

• 2. ccTLD Secretariat Staffs

  Executive Director - Byung-Kyu Kim, part time, KRNIC
  Deputy Executive Director - Abhisak Chulya, part time, ccTLD Sec
  Administrative Staff - Seung Yeon Yoo, full time, ccTLD Sec

• 3. ccTLD meeting in Stockholm on 31 May and 1 June.

  The meeting was attended by 41 ccTLD managers and 130 participants in total. The ccTLD constituency approved and accepted the permanent secretariat's work plan, and discussed the terms of reference and funding issues. Also, the best practices guidelines and the bylaws were amended. It was decided that the ccTLD constituency will probably break away from the DNSO and form a new ccSO.

• 4. AdCom Teleconference

  There was an AdCom Teleconference on 20 June 2001. AdCom decided to do online votings for ccSO Formation Statement and Best Practice Document for ccTLD Managers (v4.1) which were created and updated in the Stockholm meeting. The minutes can be seen at 20010620.ACtelecon-minutes.html.

• 5. Voting on ccSO Formation Statement and Best Practice Document for ccTLD Managers (v4.1)

  Voting will be done in July, 2001.

• 6. Outreach Activities

  BK Kim reported all outreach activities in the AP area. Abhisak Chulya briefly reported the Africa Outreach activities on 12 and 15 May. Details of the outreach activities in Africa are at: www.apoutreach.org and www.apoutreach.org/africa/meeting_minute.html

  Overall, 22 African TLD registries participated during ccTLD/AFTLD outreach activities: .ug, .bi, .cf, .tg, .cm, .mg,.ng, .ma, .za, .tz, .ne, .dj, .er, .km, .ci, .ke, .mu, .gh, .gm, .bf, .cd, .bj.

  Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank AFNOG organizers: Brian Longwe, Sunday Folayan, Charles Musisi, Nii Quaynor, Yann Kwok , Isatou Jah and many others involved, for allowing us to share the meeting on Day 1 as well as providing facilities for Day 2.
