Statement
Various African ICANN participants wished to make a statement with regards to the delegation of new gTLD's. This comes from various participants that the general African position on this should be put forward issue.
It was resolved by the participants to urge ICANN to be extremely careful when allocating gTLD's that are similar or the same as geographical Regions. This vigilance should be heightened in the case of Regions that are not yet fully developed in Internet terms and are thus unable to effectively participate fully in the ICANN process, such as the African continent and other emerging Internet Nations.
A geographical gTLD should not be allocated by ICANN before consultation with the members of that geographical Internet community.
